Topic - Wonderful Pistachio Football Season Bin Art

My client was looking for a way to cost-effectively replicate the concept of the coach being doused with a pitcher of water. I began with a stock shot of the coach and team players. I had to KO coach and retouch out all of the water (this was from just AFTER the pour occurred), which turned out to be it's own special challenge. Not to mention the HIGHLY COMPRESSED jpg that the stock plate was. Then I modeled the pistachio and started sculpting a point cloud to design the look. My first effort was overkill, then we realized that the correctly sized nut was too small for the ad, so several rounds ensued with bigger and bigger then smaller nuts.
I tried a dynamics solution with another software package, but in the end, shape design was too critical to leave it to the physics engine for a solve.
The final image ran at 30x40 inches.

funny, only the nuts need bit more variation..
That's just nuts man!

My only thoughts were that it looks as though the pistachios are exploding from his head.
This might be what you're after though so in that instance I'd add some motion blurgh.

A few impacts in the nose/mouth area may also work.

Is that a self portrait?

Cool.
Yeah that is an odd piece but really great use of Modo. This is what happens when you eat too many pistachios. A helmet and safety glasses perhaps?? Very cool : )
Looks great and definitely got my attention. The effect reads even better in the wider shot where it shows more nuts coming from high and behind him.

Really nice work!

OH!Hey gang... I threw this up and lost track. Thanks for the comments. Yes, it was really designed to show full frame. The crop works best for thumbnail display. This was a fun one to do but required a lot of variation to get the right balance of nut size and density.

Everyone makes some excellent points, the problem with these kinds of jobs is that keeping them under wraps precludes any awesome input from this highly experienced community until they're done. At which point... you know, they're done. :-/
