Topic - PAMUG (Portland Area Modo Users Group) meeting Saturday, October 27th

Join us Saturday, October 27th at 2pm for another PAMUG.

Jon Whisman ( http://pixelgraft.com ) will be presenting some of his modo/fusion FX work he has done for the Special Features Blu-Ray of the television show Super Natural along with a great example of user channels and sliders using his Junk Yard Dog project, so this will be a PAMUG not to miss!

Time permitting there will be additional simple examples of leveraging passes for basic art direction tweaks, and "correct" comping of AO.

Please bring any work you wish to show along with your modo trials and tribulations. All levels of experience and talent welcome, along with those thinking about adding 3D to their work flow, or adding modo to it their existing 3D workflow.

Some refreshments and snacks will be provided, but additional are always appreciated.

A big thanks once again goes out to Matt Keyes and Splash for helping organize the event and provide a wonderful space for modo users to meet. Thank you!

I look forward to seeing all of you there.

Looking forward to this one, I know that Jon has a lot of things to share from the trenches of the independent VFX artist.
Thanks for the opportunity, guys! Looking forward to it!

Totally stoked, if I might date myself in saying so, at this next PAMUG! I look forward to seeing some of your work flow Jon, and hearing some anecdotes about doing VFX work locally.

I will probably attend the next 3DPDX as well and try and round up a few Maxon and AE users who need to be in the know about modo and what it has to offer.

That's really awesome, I like Supernatural a lot, and appreciate the amount of work put into by all of the artists. :)

That said, I might not be able to attend this one, I'll let you know either way. Here's hoping I can make it. *Fingers crossed*

Ah Yazan, you're such a tease! What, you have better things to do like hang out with Mr. Page?

Hope to see you there!

All are welcome to these meetings and I think you'll find a real receptive group that is highly encouraging and helpful.

Besides, 3D is a deep/complex topic, and IMHO many of us will feel like noobs over and over again as we go forward with using 3D- there are just too many areas to "perfect", the tech grows so quickly, and therefore there is always something to be green about.

I'd like to point out too that, these meetings are not just for current modo users, but for potential users too. If you or someone you know is thinking about adding modo or 3D in general to their work flow, for what ever reason, then please encourage them to attend. There is no better way to get the real scoop on a product then to talk directly to people who use it.

Realized I'm not getting the emails, even though I subscribed to the topic. Weird.

Anyways; looking forward to this and I've got some content (movies, images, modo scenes) ready to share and looking forward to meeting anyone who can show up.

Teaser Images:

It was cool to meet everyone and see projects being done with Modo. It was really inspiring. Can't wait till the next meeting!

Agreed! I also enjoyed meeting everyone, presenting some stuff, and also learning a few cool things from others.

Here's the link to the edited screen capture of the presentation. As we saw, modo crashed a few times, so I cut those parts out, as well as the first part on the Super Natural content, which I can't post online quite yet. Looking forward to the next PAMUG!

Thank you Jon for entertaining and educating some of your local (sometimes jocular) modo users! We learned a lot, and everyone had a good time.

I found many of your solutions ingenious- such as how you reduced the numbers in your point cloud using point merging, and many of your other techniques for working with replicators. I encourage everyone, even if they are familiar with modo, to scan through and watch Jon's presentation as you're bound to pick up something new you didn't know before.

Thank you again for putting together a wonderful presentation, entertaining our banter and questions with ease. We look forward to seeing you at future PAMUGs!

Now talk about modest! Hey you said you were a noob, not just new to modo. You have some really nice 3D modeling work and illustrations dmceachern, so we look forward to seeing you at future PAMUGs.

BTW, if you haven't checked out the xfrog collections for modo yet, or the treedesigner plugin (LW) that we discussed during the meeting, here are some quick links:

http://www.luxology.com/store/Xfrog/XfrogPlants/

You can also buy and individual tree etc. directly from their site (http://xfrog.com)

And to make your own cool trees, if you have LW:

BTW- be sure to bug Polas (info@polas.net) and tell him modo wants some tree love too! Would be great to have treedesigner native to modo IMHO.
+1 to that. Tree generator and leaf generator (from Polas) are really useful plugins for LightWave, and should be quite adaptable to Modo.

I'm going to reply to my email I got from him when I bought the plugin and see if he has plans to port it to modo. I'll respond back to this on what he says...

I've contacted him too- I highly encourage others to do so as well:
