Hello modonauts, just a little note to say we released HDR Light Studio 4 today on Win, Mac and Linux.

A lot has changed with the software in this latest release, new interface and features, new price point, and the reason I am posting - new 'one click export' from modo into HDR Light Studio, so modo users can easily use the new LightPaint feature for fast and precise lighting of their shots, creating a custom HDRI on the fly (or enhancing an existing one - shaping the light).

We have had a few modo users on our beta program who have had great success using this release, feedback has been good.

For more info please do check out our new web site: http://www.hdrlightstudio.com

Oh, also here's a video of LightPaint in action, thanks Tim Cooper for the 3D model. In this demo it's also connected Live to KeyShot... we are working on this with Live connection with modo too, but this is a little way off: https://vimeo.com/49753201

Happy lighting!

Looks pretty interesting...
how way off for modo, if bought now, will lightpaint live be a free update ?

I really like the look of this 'reverse' workflow. It's so smart. The price is a little steep for me at the moment but it's well justified.
Sweet!

I don't know and would'nt want to make a promise we couldn't keep - here is what you can do right now with modo, even without the Live updates with every light adjustment. (modo infact will update if you save a new HDR file, because it see it's changed.. but you do need to click on modo to give it focus to do this. Better than needing to do a manual reload though and find a button)

As I remember it was 500$, now it's about 485$ (I can be mistaken), So I will wait more. But I agree it's a really lovely companion to any 3d software, and for sure I'll show it to my future boss as a real timesaver. Good Job!
It's a great product, well worth the money. I used it before with Modo and it worked well even when you had to re-export your HDR every time. Modo would see it had changed and I would tell it to reload and not bother asking in future then it pretty much automatically updated in the render view as I played with the lighting. The new methods to load your 3d scene into HDRLS speeds it up even more.

If it feels expensive, just remember its not only a Modo plug-in, it works with a lot of 3d apps and as somebody who jumps between Modo, Cinema and Maxwell it feels well worth it to me.

It was actually more like $700+ before (when I bought it).

I would suggest you try it out. If you do a lot of production work you will very quickily appreciate the speed you can gain lighting this way. I haven't had a chance to do more than play with the new light paint feature, but that is going to be a massive time-saver, even for people with a photographic background.

Congrats Mark and team! Really cool tool!
Looks nice for product work. Btw, we use modo not Modo ;-)
Neil, I have corrected by blasphemy! Cheers 'M'ate! :-)
Jacobo, thanks - so nice to see HDR Light Studio working in moma too, very slick

I believe it was 500 GBP down to 300 GBP.

The price has reduced from our old price of £599($970) to £299($499) for the new HDR Light Studio 4
ok saw the video and bought it.

cant wait to play around with this.

quick question... can you render the image right out with the model from HDR. is that possible ? or only in the 3d package.

OK, if I understand correctly, the LiveLight rendered preview can't be saved - there is no concept of shaders and materials in our software. It's a guide to get the illumnation and reflections right, so not really a useful image other than that. You see the final result of the HDRI map you make in modo, interacting with the final scene and materials.

....maybe you were asking 'can you use HDR Light Studio standalone', so load a model, light it and save the HDRI map without modo... in this case, yes you can. It support Collada and OBJ files.

Hope that helps.

Ditto!!! I ordered at work this morning to avoid the warning about the we don't work after 5 and only on weekends notice. Only to find out that I couldn't get my key until I installed it at home and now have to wait until Monday after work to use.... not happy.

Prime example of what Brad has mentioned in the past of piracy protection getting in the way of customer experience. Almost second thought the purchase knowing that I would only be able to install in on my desktop and not the laptop too. But couldn't pass on it after playing with the demo.

And another example of Luxology doing things right. Almost no wait from purchase to play. Thanks Lux.

Anyone have any luck getting the script to bind to buttons following the instructions. I either get a crash or no change to the UI.

Been trying for the last 30 min no luck.

Strike 2 on this plugin purchase. So far no way to activate purchase or get it to show up in the UI. They should have had a CFG included with the purchase for an easy install. Especially at the price I paid for it.

Doesn't feel like a real plugin purchase if I have to do all the programing work to get the button to show up in modo. All my luxology purchased plug-ins and scripts have installed with no issues. Same with the mArch plugins I recently purchased. Just had to hit install and everything showed up at Modo launch.

Brad can you give these guys a call and get someone to show them how to do things the Luxology way?

For the two buttons, unzip the hdr plugin folder. There are four files. Two scripts and two bitmaps. Basically install it like a regular script. Open form editor, and find a form you would like to put the buttons next to. Then add a control/ command to the chosen place on the form. Attach the scripts and icons via the form editor. Close and open modo. Then you are good to go.

I've been trying to do that following the instructions in the installation guide but they aren't appearing when I relaunch modo. I'll try again tomorrow. Still think for a $500 price tag they should be easier to get to show up. Haven't had to do this with other plugins/scripts I've purchased that had UI buttons.

Any chance you could post a shot or two of where you put them in the form editor?

Hi Otakukenn, installing the plugin buttons is a 'ball ache' - we agree (it took me 2 attempts). We will make this easier and try and sort an installer. Blush! I'll make a video or slides of how to do it and post a link in the mean time.

The licensing tech we have means license keys are generated by a person, not an automatic process. I know its frustrating to wait, but 99/100 times we cut the keys much earlier than this and over weekends. You are right, we can't comptete with Luxology for their excellent licensing and customer service. (yet!) Thanks for your order!
