Topic - PAMUG (Portland Area Modo Users Group) Meeting September 22nd

Do you live in the Portland area and use modo, want to learn more about the local 3D industry and how others are using modo in their profession, and like talking about 3D and the creative process? If so then get ready for PAMUG!

After a highly successful first PAMUG meeting we have decided to roll out the plans for the second event. Thanks again to everyone (especially Matt) for making the first meeting such a good one.

Date/Time:

Saturday, September 22nd at 2pm

Place:

Splash NW Suite #315
107 SE Washington St. (entrance on Stark)
There will be a call number posted at the door to get let in (building is locked on weekends)

Directions Via Google Maps

Our first meeting was a success and we look forward to building on that momentum with this next event. Be sure to mark the 22nd on your calendar and show up ready to meet fellow modo users in the area and be informed (and informative).

We will be posting some of the demonstrations from the fist PAMUG here so be sure to watch this spot for updates.

It was HUGE. We had to spread out into the streets, get bouncers, it was crazy.

Actually there were just a handful of people in the first one. From the emails I'm getting I'm figuring that the second one will have more people for sure.

You should let us know when you're in town- would be great to meet up with a few folks even if just for an hour or so. Are you in PDX on business? Shoot/fling/toss/levitate a PM when you're in town.
I should have my schedule set soon. I'd be up for a meet up for dinner or something after work hours.

Here is a re-recorded version of the demo I gave at PAMUG on using Indirect Range and HDRI for rendering:

Indirect Range for a fast "GI like" look Part I

Indirect Range for a fast "GI like" look Part II

It should be noted that AO is just X over everything in this example, which is in my opinion not a good way to use AO. For the next PAMUG I will demonstrate one one to correctly comp AO (in post).
Groovy! You should consider posting these videos in the new Lighting & Rendering section. It'll probably catch more attention than a user group thread.

I should be able to make this one. Looking forward to it!

I just arrived. I'll be at crowne plaza downtown. I'm game for any location size I don't know the place or area. I'd prefer if it's walking distance or easy for me to get to via transport.

Awesome. If Gideon hasn't already mentioned it to you, how does McMenamin's sound? It's on the corner of 15th & Broadway, within short walking distance of your hotel. Decent food and beer (if'n you drink of course).

Ok, see you there at 8pm tonight then.

Yazan it was great for us to meet up with you and get some insight into your process and thoughts on modo and "the industry". Thanks for meeting with us. Hope your work here in PDX goes well so we can see more of you- maybe even at a PAMUG!?!

Here is a big old bump to this thread to help remind people of the upcoming event. We'll be mingling and sharing modo trials, tribulations, tips and tricks along with talk of the local cg industry.

Every level of modonaut welcome!

That is too bad, where are you based at now?
Well, I think it's safe to say that PAMUG is off to a great start! Thanks to everyone who attended and participated. Thanks once again to Matt Keyes and Splash for setting up and providing a space and workstation to use as well!

A special thanks goes out to Wes Wait for showing us some of the work he as done for Brooks. Really amazing renders, models and textures, and doubly so when you learn of the process and application of these viz renders. Thanks Wes for sharing!

We'll have more information on the next PAMUG soon so keep an eye on the forums and the blog site for more info.
