Dearest modonauts,

As so much time has been spent discussing modo 201 I thought it would be a good time to give you a little news on the modo 102 front. We are actively working on a service update for modo 102 that will be released prior to modo 201. This will be a free update for modo 102 users and will focus entirely on issues of stability and correctness.

We are not ready to provide specific details, but rest assured that we have been listening to your posts and have been proactively working to make your modo experience better and better.

Thank you for your support and dedication. We are always working to return the favor.

Sincerely,

Brad Peebler

I'll be upgrading to modo 201 anyway, but patching 102 is a nice gesture from Luxology.

Mr Pebbler, random crashes are the worst. Very difficult to report. I wish a could have more time to track down those.

I hope you could understand how a daily random crash in modo, cut the inspiration and put me away to even relauch the application when I have to finish some modelling. I always wondering "will modo crash again"? But modo is so wonderful that, there I'm again, relaunching the application.

I hope you really understand the love-hate relationship that some of us have with modo. In my case I'm Rhino, LW8 user, and that is the reference I have to compare with modo, in terms of stability. am I doing wrong to compare and expect the same reliability?

I love modo because I can make my own tools, and is full customizable. modo is a jewel of software and with 201, modo will put some other Modelers behind.

Thank you very much Brad, its much appreciated. I too will very likely be upgrading to Modo 201, but in the meantime having a more stable modeler will be a welcome treat! :)

Currently I am an unlikely victim for an upgrade. As a new customer I am having problems without end. However, that might change with the upgrade if stability is improved and I can actually use the product in our .OBJ based pipeline.

Currently modo 102 is crashing without comment while trying to get a handle on the otherwise nice functionality.

I am not able to import any .obj file from XSI4.2, Silo1.4, ZBrush without the application crashing. And crashing means 'vanishing from the desktop without any comment from App or OS leaving the user puzzled about what just happened'.

I can't invest any more time and I hope the maintennance fix is correcting those problems so I can actually use the product.

Sorry to hear your having all those problems LemonNado.
I have used Modo 102 in production for months and I use the .obj to go in/out of Maya and ZB. I have very few crashes with 102. In fact, when I using 102 and my co-worker sitting next to me is using Maya......he seems to have more crashes than I do!
I love Modo - I think it's one on the BEST sub-d modelers on the market!

LemonNado,

I'm using it on a daily basis now, using OBJ back and forth between LW, maya, Zbrush, Modo and not having that many crash problems...

However many months ago when I first started, on the PC side, I would crash quite a bit...After much research I found it to be my video driver causing the problems. I found that most of the crashing problems tend to be video driver related...

Sooo, don't know if that helps much, but you might want to give that a looking into...

it's great to hear that the patch is on the way and that mac problems seem largely resolved but I hope that it'll bring some stability improvements to the PC side as well
I'm using modo at work and like it so much that I can easily look the other way when it crashes (I save very very often) but it does not change for the fact that modo does dissapear on me at least 2-3 times a day
it's impossible to tell or understand when or why it happens, but it mostly seems to be related to drawing polys/displaying things in OpenGL cos sometimes I only need to switch between layers and modo vanishes without a word...modo also suffers from the old lw problem when it takes a very, very long time to select components in very dense meshes
we're using Wildcat gfx cards but I dont think all of it can be put down to driver problems, luxology seriously needs to see these problems addressed
