can't get a simple weightmap Diffuse Color Layer to work in 202. The same scene renders just fine in 201.

Seems weightmaps also no longer work on any effect.

can anyone confirm ?

You may be right. I've just filed a bug and we'll get someone to investigate it in the next few days.

Here is a quick and dirty workaround: This script converts weights to a UV set, so if you use that UV with an image like this then you can effectively emulate a weight map texture.

Dear Allen: Is there a possibility to release a patch to fix this issue or we have to wait until 203? I'm just asking because in the latter case I'll make the script user friendly. :)

Two tips:

- Turn off linear UVs when using SDS.
- Turn off pixel blending on the gradient image map.

By the way, I fixed the script mentioned above, so it now works in multi layered scenes.

I asked the support a few days ago if they plan to release patches for this kind of critical bugs. No answer yet, but I _really_ hope they consider it. Windows is a buggy like hell, but at least there is a constant stream of patches.

is it possible to do opposite? I mean from texture map to weight map. just curious.

Copying a texture map to a weight map is not possible at the moment, but a UV map could be converted to a weightmap (or morph map). Would be interesting... do you have something in mind?

i was more thinking about getting more smooth weight maps, for example i can take that uv texture map created by your script, repaint it in photoshop and then turn that back into a weight map, that can be used with vertex map fall off or textures etc.
