"Subsurface scatter brained" that is. But we'll get to that in a minute. First the update. Stability has improved leaps and bounds in the past few weeks. In fact, I'm starting to get nervous. Why would that make me nervous? Well, I still have a lot of work to do on the manual and it looks like the programmers might just beat me to release! :) I know you all want me to give you a release date, but since I've done that a few times and was wrong, wrong, wrong I'm going to hold off until we send the discs out for duplication. I can tell you that the extra time on the app has resulted in some additional cool content and a ton more training materials which is really great. This release is going to be chock full of cool videos. The best ones are coming from our friendly beta testers. I bring you yet another sample of these videos this week for you to enjoy. Again, this is a work in progress but I really liked this video so I wanted to share it with you all. We'll do the videos first this week.
Oh, before I get to the videos I wanted to tell you a little about the content we have gotten from our testers. Aside from some cool demo scenes and killer models we have also received over a hundred really super cool tile-able image textures that work great for Image Ink painting and about 50 sweet image brushes as well, not to mention some killer material presets. It is amazing how much some good textures can spice up a model and how helpful material presets are for learning how to control the render and shading engines. I went from 0 to 60 with subsurface scattering just from one preset Allen made. These things make a world of difference. I guess the old saying, "content is king" rings true yet again.
Hey, by the way, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to Stuart and Sandi and Happy Birthday to Matt Craig (aka Furious). OK. Back to the update.
Movie time...

Torrent:Preview
And I wanted to answer a couple questions hanging out there about the new pen tool functionality. This is what I love about modo. Small change to a single tool + toolpipe = killer new feature. Generality!
Direct Download:PenQuad Redux
Torrent:PenQuad Redux
(BTW: Last weeks torrents were a success but we need more people using torrent to really load balance. This will be a HUGE help at 201 release.)
After Allens SSS post to the beta forum the testers have been having some fun poking and prodding at the SSS features. I love what SSS can do for even the simplest mesh.

These aren't SSS related but I liked them anyway...
The simple things!

Good golly I gotta get back to writing that manual...

Fantastic !!!
(as always, of course ;o)
Using the torrent here, and will leave it on for at least the next 5 or so hours - I'm hoping to dedicate another machine for this purpose shortly, but haven't set it up yet.

It seems like the depth of these test images gets better every week. These are amazing. Can't wait till the WIP section of this forum is filled with images like this from us humble little users.
Thanks to everybody working on this project. I think it will change art for a lot of us.

Thanks Brad, that really is an awesome set of images to show off the SSS. Also, thanks for show a full quality sample of the content we can all expect. It is excellent quality for the size of file and if everything is recorded like that, the content will be that much better for everyone...
Glad to hear things are looking better in the stability department. Its all exciting stuff....

Hey, Greg's video in 720p is seriously cool. Watching full-screen on a big screen is a nice bonus !
*Edit* Oh man, that gradient editor looks sweet !! (Not that all the preview options, or shader driver haven't got me on the floor already)
I was pretty casual about the release date before I watched that video, but now I want release ASAP ;o)

I do have one request, can you please recruit a beta tester who can program us a script to render out animations with 201? Having that along with the release would be great. Thanks!

niko, the torrents are just a file that is used by a bit torrent client to then download them fast from other users who ahve them. Much faster than a typical server getting bogged down. If you need a simple torrent app, you should use http://www.utorrent.com/download/1.5/utorrent.exe as it is way smaller and faster than azureus. Its a single 155KB file and download...
