What's up homies? Ready for another weekly dose of news, clues and reviews? (Must reduce caffeine intake) Let's start over dialing it down a notch shall we? First up. Development news. Not too much new to report on the GL issue. We are working hard with our testers, collecting data and talking to NVIDIA about the issue. We have "top men" on the case and high confidence that it will be resolved one way or another. ;) The progress outside of that single issue has been really good over the last week. As I mentioned we did hit our UI freeze goal and managed a beta release last week and have another scheduled for today. The weekly beta release has been very good for polishing the release process and has also kept things at a very snappy pace. On another front, we have posted the 103 Universal Binary version of modo for OS X. If you have an intel Mac you can download this from your account and run modo 103 natively. The cost for the upgrade is.... just kidding! There is no cost. It's free because we are cool like that. In addition to updating to Universal Binary we have replaced FlexLM on both Mac and Windows versions of modo with an internally developed licensing scheme. This licensing system is functionally identical to the previous. If you already have a full license of modo you do not need to do anything. Those who are using eval or temporary licenses will need to download and reinstall the modo application when you renew your license or receive a final permanent license. Now, an apology to Sonk. My man, I have some cool normal map stuff to show you but I want to save it for next week as it relates to our GDC demos. Thanks for your patience! On to the images! (No cats) I guess the absorption video a couple weeks ago got the testers thinking. There was a spate of glass tests happening the last week among other things. At any rate, I thought it would be cool to show a series of glass tests done by our intrepid artists friends. ![]() ![]() ![]() And the videos. Since I am now working most of my days creating training material I thought you all might enjoy learning modo 201 in advance. So here are some of the training clips for working with masks and the Pen tool creating quads (I snuck it in!). Pen Tool Update Working with Masks (Note: For those of you who think that rendering is not important because you render in another application, please keep in mind that modo has an extensive set of baking tools so that you can leverage our advanced masking tools to create wonderful textures that can be baked to a single image map for use in another application. Its all about the pipeline baby!) Item Masks Polygon Masks Texture Masks Creating a Ramp Mask Enjoy. I have to run to a meeting! Happy Friday everyone. Make sure to step away from the computer every now and again and go outside... (My wife asked me to suggest that to all of us. She is amazed and somewhat disturbed by my capacity to sit at an LCD for hours...) BP UPDATE MONDAY March 13 I have completed a couple new videos to clarify some basic questions about using the shader tree. The first illustrates how the workflow for simple material assignment is very similar to what you are already accustomed to. Very easy stuff. The second clip illustrates some very simple advantages to the Shader Tree and how it actually makes complex tasks simple, such as applying a single texture to multiple materials at the same time. Please let me know if these make things clearer. More to come... Basic Material Assignment Single texture for multiple materials UPDATE Tuesday March 14 Here is a quick vid showing some options for selecting materials.
