Wow, it just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter.
201 must surely be ready for the plucking, like now....
I've always wanted to create walls like that!
Nice!

Great, I have yet to feel disappointed with the updates; everything seems to be coming along brilliantly. Thanks Brad.
Cheers.
BTW: Any news on Image Synth? ;)

That tack tool is gonna be fantastic for certain things... It does look like it's not absolute there though... the objects didn't seem to be completely aligned to the surface. Any explaination for that? Still looks great, waiting on last movie to dl at the moment

from earlier test images, confirmed now, the DOF seems very very basic. no specular hilites? xdof or even photoshop lens filter seems to produce better results it seems. those 2 old images dont impress me 1 bit either. washed out burned off pics? i can see much better in the kray thread at newtek. poor or average test pics as usual. i have no idea if the prob is modo or the betateam but i havent seen 1 image that impresses me. where is the art? where is the tech? other than that curved lens distortion on sponza i cant recall anything nice. again i stress, seems like its the tool dominating the users and not the users dominating the tool. which again refutes or at least adds a grain of salt to all those workflow nirvana statements. still i have huge respect for devteam past and present, and hope i can be surprised at launch time. good luck.

I'm very impressed with the gui layout shown in the paint video. everything is there, and adjustable. wide view, tools lined in a row(top), tabbed views(main), and a tabed details area(right). Beautiful!!

perhaps it isnt a limitation.. it could be that the tester simply did not activate this particular feature. Im sure Lux will comment on this soon.

How about some details on DOF then? X-DOF can't work looking through transparent objects, so maybe one of the testers could do some DOF renders with some bottles?

totally agree. very poor light setup ...like other archiviz images in past weeks. I really hope the problem is the tester and not th sw

XDof is a plug-in that costs $200! I'm sure if you combined all your favourite plug-ins into one application it would great. It would also cost $3000.
Come on kidcodea the dof image is beautiful. I can see plenty of art there, you just arn't looking!
Nice update Lux, keep them coming.

Nice additions this week. I like the Edge slice tool, that will come in handy. TackTool is also interesting also. Oh, patience is a virtue that I must aquire. Have fun writing the manual Brad, we all swear that when 201 is released we will read the manual before installing the program. Still waiting for the PaintLayout movie to download..... wow. I really like the OpenGL views and the painter's canvas. Keep up the great work!!

It would be really really really really nice if we were given the render times and more information about the images, like if instancing were used or not.

This has been covered (like 10 times already). There's a huge difference between what you can do w/ raytraced DOF and a post filter. I think Allen had mentioned wanting to work on different types of bokeh effects when he found time - but in all honesty raytraced DOF isn't the best solution in production anyway. It will double your rendertime (at least) and you have no control over it in post.
1. render your image
2. render your depth map (32bpc)
3. use one of the dozen or so very capable 2d filters for ps,ae,df,shake, etc.
4. adjust your blooms, lens shapes, blurryness etc. until your head explodes.
the DOF in the 3rd image is very nice btw - but IMO it's a non-issue. I would never use it in production knowing I can make a change for my client in seconds using a depth map.

Good stuff Brad! Can't wait.
Can you please do a video showing all the steps involved with setting up camera and lights and then rendering a scene?
Thanks.

Looking pretty good so far.
One question. Does the Paint tool support layered .PSD files, and the layer blending types su8ch as Multiply, Overlay, Color Burn, Hue, etc?
This is vital for me if I am to use Modo paint in preference to LW / BodyPaint.
PS. Brad: If you want another Beta tester who is using Modo in a current production environment, and wants to be able to paint his characters in Modo, then I'm volunteering.
Looking for the next job. http://www.mkiii.co.uk
