Greetings modonauts,

I have to run out this morning. Apple has called and requested that we come down and confirm their benchmarks as a 3rd party. For those who do not know, Apple launched the intel based macs this week and used modo 201 rendering as a benchmark. We are apparently 4.1 times faster on this new hardware than on the previous chip in Powerbooks. Advantage modern code base!

I'll post more when I return this afternoon. But don't worry. I'm not going to leave you hanging! I've got the goods all ready for you.

Firsst here is an image made by one of our testers. Cool thing is that this is just a flat ground plane with nothing but displacements. Cool.

As we mentioned we added a round of new testers last week. This image came from one that had 201 for just a day or two. Not the best model ever, but I LOVE the painted textures and the shading justs looks cool. Shadows could use a fewmore samples, but hey, it was a test!

Now! VIDEOS!

Let's start off with a little Stupid modo 201 Trick. OK. It's not that stupid. It's cool. Check this out.

LightPaint

Updated Light Painting Clip.

LightPaint 2

Next a progress report. Seehow Sollid Sketch is advancing...
All about optimizations

Here are a couple images to go with that video. Presets made by one of our testers. Great work!

SS Hand
SS Figure

Of course we are ALWAYS listening to user feedback...
We're looking at you Loocas

What's that you say? You want MORE videos? OK. How about a couple shader tree tricks?

Direct or IndirectLight

Multi-coat

OK seriously. Im late. Gotta go. More info about the week when I get back.

BP

LOL AHAHAHHA

EDIT: AHAHA there is alot of humor packed into these vids brad ;)
i had a good laugh out loud once you startd playing with the biped (as well as with the 3ds max change)
"Oh the big changes keep on coming....."
"i can do it all day... in fact.. i do"

gotta love it :)

and once again another amazing round of videos, thx lux team!!

its quite amazing to see a company take this much user feedback into consideration.. this is why Lux is going to be on top in the near future. The only problem for the future is with the amount of new users modo will pickup, it will become alot harder to respond to individuals as you can do currently, but you (lux team) are all pretty smart and im sure will figure out a way to make it work

I concur, these Friday updates are great. I love the multi-coat demo, it reminds me of many years ago when I was an intern and the Softimage 3D freelancers would speak of the hallowed "tri-spec" shader in hushed tones.

Cheers to Brad and crew

It's like zspheres, but in a 3d world that makes sense.

Sorry, but zbrush's hybrid 3d world and ui is a bit funky. Solid sketch looks sweet, and straight forward.

Yet another great update with plenty to ponder over...thanks Brad...I just hope this burning desire to try everything ends soon ;) I will just have to continue to ease my anticipation with capturing textures for ImageSynth with my new Nikon :P

Cheers

Amazing as always Brad. Is it possible to throw in a video illustrating how the curve falloff works ? Do the polys conform to the shape of the curve? interacively?....
Awesome.. 201 is the king of 3d. 103 already paid for itself(just picked up my first job..I will post results).
If the curve falloff does what I think it'll be great for architectual modelling
