Greetings modonauts!

It was another solid week of development for us. We are now at a point where we are entirely focused on crushing bugs. We are also releasing a new build to testers and adding 50 testers (we're full so dont ask! ;) )While we are making great progress towards release, we did have a little feature creep sneak in. Sometimes our developers get a little too excited. Its hard to complain when they do cool stuff but it can upset the schedule a little. As a combo manager and end-user I find myself conflicted. I love the new tools but schedule impact is always dicey. I'll give you a peek at the creep next week (rhyme unintentional).

MACWORLD NEXT WEEK! Hey we are excited about the keynote because we are nerds. But if you want to come check out modo 201 in person we are going to be doing demos at the ATI suite! They have given us permission to invite the entire modo community so feel free to come on by. I'll post location details on the forums later today.

This week I have a smattering of cool stuff to show you. There was some talk about our new polygon type for "Spline Patch" so we have a video that should hopefully explain that better. Additionally I have a deeper run down on the Slide tool with some refinement that happened since Siggraphs demos and then I have a silly clip for you because it's friday and I'm a dork.

How about some pics? Not only have the developers been busy the testers have been at it again as well. Check these out.

The chameleon was an old model made in LW I believe. The tree branch was modeled and painted entirely in modo and the image uses the modo render of course! I like this one.

Here's a great example of an architectural render with modo.

Now for the movies.

Spline Patches

Slide Enhancements

Neural Link

Happy Friday. Things are getting really cool.

Heh I was just wishing I could work with transparency the other day instead of having to export from modo and then go back and forth between photoshop and xsi preview renders.

Looks great. I love the lighting on the architectural model scene. Videos are downloading right now. ;) So, how long did the renders take? You knew someone was going to ask... ;)

Like they say on the ads for the big golden M: I'm loving it. Spline patches are very nice. One question: How stable are the spline based tools in 201? Actually their instability is the main reason stopping me from using them in current versions.... I just love da chameleon. It looks - um - kinda cute.

Wow. Looking great as always.

Brad, In the first video though you have a button in your tools panel (underneath the solid sketch button) that says things like biped, hand, leg, bird...things like that. Are these custom buttons you have installed using scripts or are they in modo 201 - and if so, what exactly do they create/do?

Cheers

It's not a neural network connection. . .it's a Russian ballistic nuclear missile submarine.

Hey that branch looks killer. Maybe the tester could upload a tutorial once 201 is shipping, eh?

Cheers

Didnt notice that until you pointed it out, i think they are solid sketch primative :) there not skeleton for rigging, though i would love to be proven wrong on that ;)

As would I. That is why I am so keen to find out.

I think you might be right though, that they are solid sketch primitives.
