Every year it is our holiday tradition in the modo community to search high and low for the best holiday image of the season. This year a steady stream of images appeared in the Image Gallery, Forum Gallery and WIP sections -- and then we had an explosion of images right at the deadline. We even had some images sent to us that were not posted in the Forum. You made it tough on us judges, but we loved it. We made lists, we laughed, we cried, we debated and threw darts (fortunately the darts merely bounced off the monitors, so no harm done). Finally, we selected what we feel is the overall best holiday image for 2009. Congrats to Pascal Beeckmans of Belgium (PaQ Wak on the Forum) for his amazing snowy image seen below. He is the winner of the free modo upgrade and the ATI FirePro 3750 graphics card from AMD. Oh and he gets some major bragging rights too!

I am not necessarily drawn to images that incorporate our logo but this particular image transcended that and "works" whether you know that the ice spiral is our logo or not. The scale of the icy tube is so large it even steals attention from the massive mountain in the background. The ice (with stress lines) and the trees and the windblown, partially melted snow are very well done. It screams big and cold!

There are so many other images that were great this year and the variety was amazing. I am going to include some of my personal faves below. There were so many entries, I just cannot list all of them. Brad may point out some of his favorites in his modcast on Friday. I want to thank EVERYONE who submitted images, it was a pleasure to look at each of them. Some of the simplest ones were in fact the best. The tropical theme was great - after all it is summer on half of the globe now. OK, I am babbling.

Great work by all!

Bob

Hi Everybody,

Congratulations PaK WaQ, and all the other entrants. There are some great seasonal images in the gallery. You guys should make a calender out of them and put it on sale.

Happy Christmas to all...:)

Congratulation to PaQ Wak!! I love this image, the snow and all details in there. Somehow when I look at it, I forget its is made with 3D - its just a lovely image that brings out the best of the season. (Christmas-holidays and modo :)

PLEASE MODO COMMUNITY, forgive me for asking this...
This is truly an awe inspiring image, I can only one day hope to produce something half as nice as this, and like wise all the other entries are equally impressive, but as my 9 year old son was looking at them with me he noticed that all the images shown had a christmas ( holiday theme ) except the one that was voted the best and he was kind of perplex that it was a holiday image contest, but a non holiday image won??? he see's ice and snow and trees and he see's a winter image ( which is a season, not a holiday )( yes I know he can be a wise a_ _ sometimes)

Tell him it would make even less sense if he was sitting here in the southern hemisphere. Forecast says it'll be 31 deg centigrade (88 Fahrenheit) here today. 'Holiday' here means beachwear, barbecues and suntan lotion.

Great image though, a deserving winner for sure.
