I have a big problem: Our Company is going to buy 3D Software in near future. We need it for Conceptional Product Design and Visualizing. I know, Modo is good for modelling, it´s amazing flexible you even can solve hard problems where usually only a good nurbs modeller could handle the design challange. Even the UV tools are pretty usefull for placing the packaging designs on the products. So far so good, modelling and texturing can be done very well with modo. But how do i render the designs? Do i need a second software like cinema4d/lightwave (only mac) for setting up my virtual studio to rendering the design? do we have to invest a lot of money into another software package just for rendering? I wasn´t aware the fact, the 201 will have a renderer included. So i searched the forum for some images and the one i found looks impressive. But i didn´t found anything with GLAS, LIQUIDS, liquids in glas, glossy refraction and so on.

So my question is, will the final renderer being able to produce glassy kinds of products, and will there be different light types (spot, area ...)can brightcards created..... the whole repertoire for setting up an almost perfect studio lightning to put the designs on a show?

it´s important to me to know that. i must know if the waiting time for modo 201 will be worth or if i have to think about other software solutions.

thx a very lot for helping me

I would also like to see some intensive reflection/fraction action! Either way, look here:

If you mean this one by Paul, I think you'll find that he will confirm that it was done in another application...off the top of my head, Lightwave.

Actually it was done with the Vray renderer in Max. This was a while back when modo was (and still is) a modeler only program. Pretty much all those images in the gallery were rendered elsewhere.

That brings a good point though. Jason, if you're reading this, you may want to figure out a way to make it clear these were only modeled in modo and rendered elsewhere to avoid confusion.

nice render anyway wich engine did the job, BUT WILL MODO 201 BEING ABLE TO DO THAT??? :/

i cannot believe, modo 201 can simulate everything from plastic to metal, sss, displacement and so on and so on, but no glas????

what reason in the world exist not to make modo 201 able to create glas????

besides: what does that mean?

"Additional Rendering Features

* Selective ray tracing with support for shadows, reflection and refraction

Does that mean glas?

Yes, modo 201 can certainly render glass. A couple of transparency-related bugs were just recently fixed so this will be a good time to exercise that capability. I'll post one of my tests or perhaps an example from one of the alpha testers soon.

a render of a interior shoot, with modeled glass(glass with thickness) is what i would like to see. (with the physically base shading).

something like this: http://www.maxwellrender.com/files/comparison04.jpg
