There has been a lot of scuttlebutt about the render times Allen posted. Some people even wondered if the radiosity shading had been pre-computed to get that blazing speed. Well, to show everyone that this is legit we were able to get some more time on a quad G5 and one of our engineers put this little video together for you to show that tbe radiosity was not baked. The render times suffer slightly due to the screen capture software but I think you will get the point.
modo 201 meets Quad G5
Enjoy!

Looks good. However, in the status box, ETA: output seems silly. Soon, almost there, done. I hope this will actually indicate an approximate time in the future.

wow. wow.
So--I noticed that there are four bucket renders. Is that one bucket per core? If one had four networked Power Mac G5 Quads would there be 16 buckets?

The ETA listing is not complete. Clearly. ;)
Once the network version of the rendering engine is done (2006) you will be able to use "buckets per proc" across multiple networked machines. Yes. Yes indeed.

Woah.
I'm going to cry myself to sleep tonight, while my computer is rendering a frame in 17 hours instead of seconds.

Now that we know it's fast on a G5, what's the rendertime on a pentium 3.2Ghz(hyperthreading, no dual core :( , 2gigs ram hehe
Seriously though, I'm impressed.

Nice if you have a quad G5 =)
I don't think I'll have the good fortune to get one of those by the time 201 is released. =(

Fascinating!! :)
Thanks for the clip, Brad.
I'd assume there would be fairly comparable performance on the Dual/Dual AMD box, T4D; it could honestly swing either way, but I'd bet a pretty penny it'd be quite similar to what was shown in the quad mac video.
Aside from Modo's performance on the AMD, good luck on that new box T4D, and keep us posted on how you like it.
Thx,

I love the ETA bit. Does it have "Time to make a cup of tea", "Would be a good time to take your lunch break" and "Go home for the night" too!

I'm giddy. hee hee I ordered both a quad and Modo 201. It's a race to see which gets delivered first.
How am I gonna have any time for games with rendering that fast? Hmmm

That's pretty impressive. I downloaded the modo demo a couple of nights back and was very surprised how well it runs. Not had the time to really get into it yet (Hope to start on some tutorials this weekend) but it feels really responsive. If the rendering is handled in the same manner this is going to be a must buy for me.
