Hello all,

As promised I'm posting a video describing the technique discussed in the Nokia 8600 gallery thread (http://forums.luxology.com/discussion/topic.aspx?id=26426).

It's narrated by me, but I bet 99% of you will have the mercy of turning off the audio and let your imagination fly over the 15fps video capture. I didn't have much time to refine it since I captured it off the 302 demo which expired like one day after I did this.

Hope it will clarify some of the questions you had about the technique. Please if you take it further share your findings!

on it:

http://tommasolanza.com/projects/nokia-8600/procedural-lighting.php

speak soon.

Hi Tommaso,

thanks a lot for providing that. I suppose it´ll help me very much for my next modo project(s). I will also try to adopt this technique to Maya with Mental Ray or Maxwell Render.

Can I borrow your voice ? :-) I just can't hear myself narrating screencasts.

thanks again for sharing this lighting-method, it's greatly appreciated. i lighted an alloy with it for a commercial project last week and the result turned out great compared to the professional studio-shoot i had to match the animation against.

I know. Listening to your own voice is horrible. I still cringe. Just keep the tuts coming you'll soon get used to it!

Tommaso,
Thanks again for sharing this useful creative solution. I learnt a lot from your explanation beyond the base idea.

It'd be great to be able to save your tutorial for future access without tonight's protracted load interval. Save your bandwidth too.

Hi Everybody,

Tommaso Lanza:

I want to download your tutorial for future reference but when I click the 'save as quicktime movie' button as shown in your screengrab, it just saves the still title image that is shown before you begin viewing the movie.

I have quicktime pro, and I'm running mac osx 10.4.11. Is it just me? What am I doing wrong?

Hey,

the movie loads thru QTobject, which means you have to click on the poster frame, get the movie to start playing and finish loading in the QT progress bar and then you can save it.
If you click save when still on the poster frame it doesn't work.
I could post a direct link, but I would like to avoid direct linking to the file itself, since it would skip the description page.

No unfortunetely. I have a QT that came with my ipod and it gives me -

and wants me to go buy QT Pro.
Guess I might have to do that.
Thing is that when I click on their buy Pro link it crashes Firefox. Ha ha. That fills me with enthusiasm and confidence in their product. Not!

Thanks again.

Its a halfway point to Tommaso's idea.
