Hello again!

So this is the one stop shop for all things related to the Cartoon Kid tutorial. Brad and I kept this one secret from Bob for ages. Covert tutorial production! Cloak and dagger stuff.

Thank's to Darren for the sketches. They were great to work from. It is my twist on the design, so be sure to add your own twist to it weather it be facial expressions, clothes or poses. It's that kind of project. 100% fun!

Andy

Hi Andrew,
Really nice tutorial, thank you. What are your thoughts on creating geometry for functioning eyelids? The lids you model in the tutorial don't really have enough structure for blinks, etc. Any suggestions?

Hi John,

Your absolutely right. Thanks for pointing that out. It's an easy fix. You just need to through an extra loop around each eyelid. Here's a video that explains it.

Looks like Brad as a kid ... amazing !
Did you make it on purpose ?

I just would like to thank you Andy for this amazing tutorial. I've just reached the end of the second video and not only I'm learning a lot but also I'm having a lot of fun trying to model this character. Thanks also to Luxology for releasing these training kits and selling at this ridiculous price.

Thanks for another awesome tut, Andrew. Between you and Dan
Ablan, I might finally get up to speed on a modeler. :)

Hope this isn't OT as I haven't done the tutorial yet but I wanted to mention that I bought the files and look forward to working on the project.

Thanks for putting the effort into the tutorials. They are cheap in price but rich in value, especially considering how much value you get in information regarding Modo. I have them all except the car. I'm a noob and the car looks a little tough for now.

I'm embarrassed to say that I rarely finish tutorials (in all applications). I find the value is in doing parts and finding ways to use the program.

Keep the tutorials coming. Cartoon characters and cartoon objects are good subjects.

Hi I just got the kid tut and I started making the base mesh with solid sketch. Then I am supposed to use the sculpt tools to edit the mesh. My problem is that none of my sculpt tools seem to work properly. What am I not doing correctly I selected the push tool and the soft brush as well as nozzle but it does not work please help
thanks

That's weird, it should just work. Increase the offset amount and see if that helps. It could be the size of your brush. Right click and increase it's size.

Whoo Hooo!!!

Great stuff Corien. I like the eye's they have tons more character than the eyes on my model. I should have worked on that area more.

Can't wait to see updates! The hair is cool too!

Very nice indeed, lot of character in that face.

Only managed to watch video one so far myself but it does look very good. Already feel I have picked up some great tips just from that one video. It is a bank holiday weekend here in the UK so I am hoping to have a little time to make a start on this series.

Thanks so much Andy and thanks RedRowan,
here an update..
--------------------
now its time for video 3..but first a night of sleep..
its late here already!
BTW: In every video i learn new things..i
think thats because of the way your brain is wired Andy(great choice of words;-)
You always do things in a much more logical and handy way then i do.
its a great way to learn for me to work less chaotic and slobby;-)
and to learn to take use of ALL of modo's tools/and options !

anyway:
Kitty Cooooooool is groing ;-)...

haa..well thank you but no...i do not want to run wild this time!!!
i want to do this tutorial and stay as close as possible
(for me that is a challenge;-)to the example of Andy,
so i will learn a bit more and not skip to many parts, because i am somewhat(=a lot)of an impatience worker;-)
Anyway here the video 3 update..because she is a girl..i changed a tiny little bit in clothing.

Greetings!

Awesome stuff :)

Also - shame on you Andy Brown, for saying "the Zee key" instead of calling it by it's proper name, "the Zed key" :D

And you didn't even mention that to us...? Would have bought you anything to drink had I known you were stopping by close to my little town!
