thanks!
had seen the god of war vid already. was an inch away from posting it here yday! its cool vid.
i didnt like the way u added fog to ground plane. in lw its so much more intuitive. why should it be linked with materials? what has a material got to do with an object receiving fog or not? why do we need masks on a photoshop inverted layer schematic thats way way less usable and obvious than photoshop. i think modo would really benefit non geeky ppl by having a more user friendly UI. and by that i dont mean its preetier icons or whatever. i mean its just so obstrusive to my mind, i try for ages to get into it and cant. i see some stuff was improved for 301 (many of which meets mine and others feedback from previous versions on workflow and usability and readability of ui). Im glad overall modo is less of a technology representation (look what our ui tech can do, flex here, kinky detail there, anything anywhere with any meaning causing some havoc and uncontroled incoherence) to actually starting to streamline it and make some DECISIONS about how it should work so that less default layouts it will need. the fact it has less layouts is in my view an obvious improvement. but stuff like this totally banal action in lw takes so much effort and odd clicking, makes me still believe there is still sooo much room for improvement. the pivot part was equal to lw basically so dats fine, would it be easy with null parenting? i suspect not... i hate that layer system, its so NOT READABLE. and i am very at home with photoshop... i just cant see how listing a bunch of dif things on a endless list helps readbility. it doesnt even denotes what is a drop down and what is not after all this time... so many little things could be done better. keep up the good work, i feel its not enuff but at least is ense some stuff in the program improving in teh right direction. and please remember, a hammer can do loads of different things. i prefer to take over the tool and explore it even beyond what was expected of it. if i load zbrush (a prog with a insane ui to the level of earlier blender versions) i can start with a ball and end up with a preety cool face in less than 3 mins and i didnt pick a single tool. it was always there. shift, alt, right click contextual opttions and voila. done. who needs manuals? bad apps.

Nobody has said anything, but I think that selling the videos before 301 releases is a great idea.

What kind of discount are we talking about on the preorder? Thanks for the video update.
Just listened to the modocast again, and would definitely like to have access to that meterial before 301 comes out and get a $25 discount on the upgrade. Sounds like a good deal.

Ok Brad... not cool.
You talked about Reflex. I nearly spit my coffee out thinking it was released. Now mind you im not in the loop on this, but i've been quite curious to see if it may be a nice new animation package and have been quite eager to buy it..
However, you talking about it made me wonder why? Is it coming out soon? Or am i missing the big "BUY NOW!" link :o
Btw, i would like being able to get access to 301 training before hand. It would be the same as Friday updates imo, its nice to get 301 knowledge before i use it :)
oo, and i LOVE the free thing! Rockon! :D
--- 401 made me switch from Linux to OSX so i could use it. Guess i should be glad it didn't ask for more. :)

Front page? Have to listen and watch yet.
Reflex? http://www.digitalfish.com/ Says in faq built to fit into a maya pipeline and is currently for Mac only. Looks interesting though.
What kind of training videos? O.o This puter is pokey and doesn't load stuff well. 400 mhz and still capable of getting on the net, ha.

I vote for releasing the training as soon as its done. Now I am excited about the training as well as 301.
BTW: Will that be the same deal on the training for educational lics. ? Just curious.
Thanks! Angier

I agree, I have the same issue as you, and it is for these reason, Modo is totally useless for me :(

Yes, release the tutorials before 301 and if you have any tutorial for 401 release it too.

That guy in the Gods of War video seems to have modo spread over two monitors very nicely.
I'd get the training video if offered now, Brad. Makes sense from the bandwidth side, imho. 301 will tie up the servers why not spread extra load into between now and release.

Is there any info available on how easy it is to get Camera movement into Modo from other applications? Say, build a scene in Modo, export, animate elsewhere, then import and render back in Modo? 'Cos I'm sorry but animating a camera by offsetting its origin is not going to cut it when tracking moving objects, making complex fly-thrus, interesting product shots, or... well anything, really :-(
I remember trying to get smooth camera animation in Cinema by parenting it to a nest of nulls then animating the nulls in sequence - this before it had decent camera controls (we're talking five years ago here) - a painful experience indeed...
I understand that MDD is strictly polygonal, so I suppose the best way would be to do the camera animations elsewhere, bake the tracks and apply them to a simple poly object which can then control the camera via parenting in Modo? Of course this wouldn't help with focal length but it would be a start... Or maybe the fbx format contains camera animation which can be used?
