Thanks guys. Wish I had a big bucket of lego so I could try building it for real :)

Cheers,
Keith

That would be fun. It also occured to me that you could array a lego block and this would work the same way. You'd have to set the array so that the blocks were staggered though. An interesting thing to try.

Very cool stuff!

Can you change the cubes to Lego building blocks? Or use mesh instancing for the cube so any shape can be swapped in?

thanks for the nice comments guys. I'm kinda embarrassed to be mentioned in the same modcast as Gelmi's sheep image. That was an amazing image from a very talented artist.

You wouldn't be able to instance the cubes because there needs to be "real" geometry for the stencil operation to work with.

The cubes could be any shape although the stencil operation can get quite slow with a high density array so best to keep the shapes simple. Lego should be fine though.

Here's the modo content rhino made using hexagonal primitives...

cool technique,

how do you achieve the lines from each cubic? i think there is normaly no space between the cubes.

There is a small gap between each cube. I made the cubes 9.9mm on each side and the array tool positioned them every 1cm.

Thanks,
Keith
