I took up the Zeppelin for the San Diego Aerospace Museum project. I have always been fascinated by airships, and it was easier than my first choice, the A6M Zero. :)
These are the plans for the L-32 which is very similar from what I understand.

Thanks again Jeff.
For anyone else interested in building airships, real or virtual, here's a cool site I found:

Hoping to get some early meshes posted by the end of this weekend, as my time allows.

Thanks Jeff! Some useful Modo-specific tips in there. The part about the background image rotation in particular has been helpful, I could not figure out what I kept doing wrong.
I am waiting for a paid gig to finish rendering (can't wait for net render) before I can really start hammering this out. That and I need to finish up the flashlight real quick, jut to be able to say that I finally finished a WIP... :)

I actually screwed up. That first render is BEFORE SubD. SubD actually messes the appearance up, the indents start looking like someone pushed them in with a finger, NOT what I'm looking for.
Need to keep trying...

I think I'll just stick with a non-subdivided mesh, it looks pretty decent.

I'm still trying to tell when to sub-d and when not to. I'm not familiar with the renderer enough to know how good the smoothing algorithms are.
Yours sure is looking good.

I'm still larning Modo, but I think there's a way to adjust the smoothing angle for the meshes, isn't there? As for figuring out what smooths well, I just do quick test renders and tweak it if I hate it. :)

Hey Seb (nice to meet you in email),
Nice progress. :)
Click on your Material and go all the way to the bottom and you will see "Smoothing" set to 100% and "Smoothing Angle" defaulted to 60%. Play with your angle % there. Make sure you are set to "Shaded" in your viewport and that your Shade Options: Smooth (down a bit in the menu) is "checked" on. You will be able to discern what works pretty well, without having to render each setting change. You can render after you feel you got it looking good, just to be sure. ;)
