A modo wanabee's first attempt in modelling an airplane...whew! needs a lot of remodeling and tweaking. Thanks to Jeff Rutan for some insights on modelling techniques.

Terry,

Thanks for participating and for FINALLY posting! ;-)

I can see you remember how to use some of the tools we practiced the other night - great!
Outstanding job on shaping that split inside the nose! You will become a sub-d master in no time! ;-)

There are some things you will need to tweak, but will come an folks here will help you, so keep posting your progress and don't be afraid to ask questions.

I can see that you lost some of the airfoil shape of your wings - maybe when you did a loop slice for the canopy. I would suggest hiding everything but the wings and the first loop attaching them to the fuselage, then use side view, wire frame mode and vertex mode so you can clearly see the shapes of all the wing airfoils.

Select all the vertices along one edge (starting on the top spanning edge nearest the leading edge of the wing). Touch all the airfoil sections at once with these selected verts.

Then move these verts all together at once until you see better airfoil shapes in the side view. Repeat for a couple more edges along the leading edge of the wing - proceeding to the middle of the top of the wing. Repeat for the bottom of the wing too if necessary.

Be sure to move ALL the vertices along each spanning edge at once or you will end up with nasty ripples in the wing surface.

Read Ian Brown's post here about proper shape for airfoils before you start, then make your airfoils look like that shape:

You should also keep a close eye on these threads that are modeling very similar craft to yours:

Don't be afraid to ask them questions too! ;-)

Keep at it!

Thanks,
-Jeff

Terry - Please note that the one in the museum does not have the drop tanks, so we will remove them for the museum display, but you can keep them on for your final render.
-Jeff

And I did a test render for Terry just because I needed one:

Terry - I just noticed the flow guards on top of your wings are not positioned correctly.
Your plane should have one very large one where you have the first one, then the second smaller one is about half way out on the wing, and the third is about 1/3 of the way out from there (not as far out as your last one). The antenna should be angled back instead of forward like you have it, and your gun enclosure is quite a bit too small compared to the one in the museum. You are also missing ailerons and a rudder.
Please check all your reference photos and blueprints for accuracy on these items.
Thanks,
-Jeff
