Coming Soon! I preordered it finally and have the software I must say Im impressed! I dont have the dongle yet so I cant test without water marks but I will be doing tests soon for those that were interested in this renderer that use maxwell. Or for people that dont use any unbiased engine and are interested in them this is for you guys/gals.
So about the lack of work and replys in the gallery I got alot of work on my plate so no free time for tutorials and stuff. I didnt forget about them though!

Thanks Seth,
I can't wait to here about it.
And what . . . ? You're letting a little thing like work get in the way of doing more cool stuff for us!?! Where are your priorities? I bet you're wasting a good 4 or 5 hours a night sleeping. What's wrong with you? Get crackin'!!!

Hey, thank you! I'm really interested in Fry, and I think I will buy it, but just the day before the final version is coming out! :D It would be really nice to have a modo plug-in... Lux, what about a SDK??!? :) Or what about an unbiased render engine inside modo?!!!!!? :D

I'm VERY interested in this. We're using Maxwell quite a bit here at Cityscape, and pitting it against alternatives would be interesting indeed.

Captain,
How is Maxwell going for you in a production environment? I purchased it and admittedly I haven't given it enough of a test to be fair, but I have had difficulty using it with modo and even with stuff I do out of maya it seems so painfully slow. I love the quality of the renderer and although the interface seems a little difficult at first, I'm sure I could get used to it with some effort. But between the bugs and the very long render times for a any kind of a clean high res image (even on a quad intel mac pro), I'm not convinced it is worth the effort in a paying client environment.
I'd be curious about your commercial experience with it.

We achieve clean renders by network rendering on octo-core Xeons... Yeah, it is a tad slow.

Do they let you run all 8 cores or do you need to have an additional license?
I am running 4 cores (opetron 280s) and get them all but I think that was the max if I remember.
Now we have 8 core WStation at work sos I am interested.
Also interested in the Fry Render. I really liked the LW interface I saw.

Quote from Intuition : Do they let you run all 8 cores or do you need to have an additional license?
At the moment you need 2 licenses for that. I don't know if you're an early adopter. If you were around during beta, you can get 1 extra license for free.
Next Limit has announced they're chaning their licensing policy (probably for the next release), hopefully we'll see something like a per node approach.

One fry lic right now costs 395 euro that covers 1 computer plus 10 for network rendering. Not core specific either...maxwell cost 1200 US for 1 license that ONLY covers 4 cores so you would need 2 licesnes for 8 cores so networking for rendering with a slow renderer would cost you a forturn. They annoucned that they will be changing that policy mid may with maxwell 1.5.... However I have a feeling they will just add 4 cores to that so you will still need a extra license for every render node on your network. But you never know, I should have my fryrender dongle this week so I will be posting some comparisons. Not a this renderer is better and bashing the other renderer but a fair comparison so you all can make a better choice on where to invest your monay for software.

Seth: Maxwell cost only 100 euro more than Fry. (beta 495, full 895). Fry is cheaper and licenses look better, so why you make this tricks? Maxwell 1.5 is coming, we'll see. Can you show some interface shots, or they are on NDA?

Your right I lied, if maxwell is 995 euro then the cost US is $1,354.84 so not 1200 my bad. And comparing the CURRENT price of Fry it is a better deal and has more features in a beta stage so its no trick. 395.00 euro is 537.85... I will qoute myself here.... "One fry lic right now costs 395 euro that covers 1 computer plus 10 for network rendering" notice the keywords that say RIGHT NOW. The final version of Fry will not be released for sometime I think so it is not logical to qoute a price that wont be in effect for some time. Futher more when comparing to pieces of software for users to decide on what to upgrade to, beta or not it would be correct to qoute the current price not the planned price thats not going to be in effect for years. Im not talking future costs even then its cheaper and more logical for a consumer as it gives more bang for the buck. With its 10 network nodes. I have no doubt it will be well worth the 1200.00 when its fully developed. Lets not compare products that only have advertising such as 1.5 when it comes then we will compare and boast but until then its just clever marketing to develope steam for the release that is all. I have a feeling they will disappoint alot of users with this release mid-may that is if they can keep the release date...
Lets futher compare value.... 1 lic for fry includes 10 nodes unlimited cores at 537.85 at the current price but for the sake of proving my point I will include the future price. So you pay for fry 1,218.68 when version 1.0 is released thats it you have enough for 10 nodes.
Okay now look at maxwell pricing system for 10 licenses on intitial purchase will cost you Payment Form: Merchant: NEXT LIMIT TECHNOLOGIES Transaction Num.: 042610xxxx47x Amount: 9950.00 $
Okay so its nine times the amount YIKES. But wait they only cover four cores :( per lic. Guess what all my computers are 8 core machines so I would have to buy another 10 licenses just to get the full power out of my network So lets look at the cost of that shall we... Payment Form: Merchant: NEXT LIMIT TECHNOLOGIES Transaction Num.: 04261xxx441x Amount: 19900.00 $
Ouch so you tell me what the better deal is even if I used the beta price.... futher more if after doing these tests fry turns out to be a faster product then well you do the math what would you buy a cheaper renderer with a better policy thats more effiecent or a hyped up piece of software that costs 20 times the other one.
Price difference.... is 18,682.00 dollars ummm ya then look at equipment if you buy all at once... the average 8 core machine with 4 gigs memory is 5,500.00 so add that with your licsenses your studio is looking to spend on software and equipment is... 74,900.00 dollars.
EDIT: It is also not logical to not have plans to not network render when using an unbiased renderer, whether it Fry or Maxwell they will both be slow no matter what. Its the internal optimzations that make either of them better then the other. So that is a very important aspect when buying software you HAVE to look at expandability in your studio not just the base price of one licsense.
Anyways I cant show ss's of the interface since it is on NDA so I wont be able to go into detail about that although it is really nice! Thats all I will say. I should be recieving my dongle today if DHL is on time and it looks like they are so I will be testing today. Render speeds, materials, scene complexities, and other things that are comparable between the two. Although fry is still in beta I think it is still a good competitor and can be compared to maxwell... as the software progresses ill do more tests between the two that goes for 1.5 maxwell also.

Don't you think you overreacted a bit? I still agree, and quote myself: "Fry is cheaper and licenses look better", and you constantly make some abrakadabra with prices. If you cannot even take a right price from a site (895 Euro), why I should believe in all that maths? All you prove is that you real fry fanboy and from some reason - you don't like maxwell. That's really not interesting. Maybe you can show some renders?
Edit: I look at this, and you say it very clear and I cannot disagree. So why you make this small manipulations with maxwell price - I dont know. Just remember that when Maxwell was in beta there was no other (commercial) renderer like this. So maybe we stop discussion and make some tests, comparison and so on.

Easy Boy, easy! Your sentence "and for some reason - you don't like Maxwell" puts you in the same boat. We are all friends here.

How can I be a fan boy when I dont even have the software yet? And just fyi, ask anyone on this forum I am well versed with just about any render engine and will point out its faults and strengths against another engine. I will also defend my points and thoughts with evidence supporting them. Your tone is a little rude in my opinion and I will not explain myself any further to you or what I think as it does not matter. I have also made several tutorials on various things mainly lighting and things like that in these forums I am not asking for your respect nor am I asking you to accept the knowledge I pass to others, but I will not get into a arguement over something so trivial. Call it what you like and just FYI I use maxwell in production. And have not used Fry at all yet.
Thank you Seth

No biggie though being from different areas we take things differetly so no worries m8. Just look foward to some tests! All will tell in a few days.

The Maxwell pricing is changing much for the better as of 1.5. Maybe not quite as generous as Fry, but nowhere near as bad as it used to be.
Standard licenses will no longer be core or CPU restricted, but tied to the machine instead. They're also introducing new rendernode licenses as well for a lower price.
Some great bonuses as well for existing customers (current license becomes a 4-machine license) and any new pre-orders for 1.5.
I won't post the whole email here, as I'm not sure that's allowed. It does look like they're accepting there's competition and making some changes, and this can only be good for us.
HTH,
Michael.

Well thats good to hear that because of some companies they realize they will loose if they dont make changes lol. I figured that there would be price changes but arnt lics. already cheaper? I think they are cuz when you go to buy the software and put in 10 licenses you only get charge 9950.00 instead of 13000+ so they are a little cheaper already just curious how much they are cuttin prices :)

Well if you buy 1.5 you get 3 free nod eliscences so you get to use it on 4 cpu no matter how many core that is. The best part is for older costumers that got the free pluone liscence. We get to use it on 8 computers so we could use it on 8 quad cores computers that is 32 cores. The bad thing is that I am a stundent and only have two computers so I have extra 6.
