Yazan has done it again. This time he has created a detailed set of gear just like you'd find in a real world photographic studio - right down to the folds on the reflectors that hang on the end of boom tripods. We call it the Studio Lighting and Illuminance Kit. And it makes it easier than ever to get professional-looking shots of small, medium or large objects in modo.

There is much more...check out the manual here:

The SLIK product itself can be seen here:

Probably the single most important add-on for modo yet. Would have paid double.

This is a great idea. I'm wondering how accurate it is, when compared to the real world. Could I use Modo to rough out a lighing design for an actual shoot....

Well, After what I was able to view on Saturday I told myself no matter what the cost I was going to invest in this, being true to my word, I just purchased this ( thank you Yazan ) I have installed it ( now of course I want to play ) but was there suppose to be any training included with this or was the class on Saturday it?

After you install the Slik kit, browse to your modo content directory, for me it's in
Application Data/Luxology/Content/ and then browse inside the Content folder to /Assets/Assemblies/9b SLIK/ inside this folder is most of the Slik content, including a videos folder with lots of training material :)

Amazing kit! Thank you Yazan, and Lux for investing in the creation of these kits, Splash and Slik kits are both great, i can't wait to see the HRDI one! :)

This looks great, but as I'm a lowly freelancer I can't afford this right now. (at least not until my damn clients pay me!). I wonder, will the HDRI environments be available separately from the whole kit? As I am not a photographer and wouldn't know a softbox from a chipmunk, I'd find the whole kit confusing, but ready-made HDR's brilliant?

cheers

Thanks to Yazan and also to Tim Vasquez, Phil Lawson and Luxology. This is a awesome kit and with its price a great deal.

Sad that the docs and the videos are not integrated into the SLIK UI, but that's a small thing to criticize.

Now waiting for the tools Tim and Phil are working on.

Roger Harris, I'm with you bud. Forget the pregnancy, show me the baby! I'd pay a chunk for the hdri's. Most cases in the "down and dirty" freelance environment, hdri maps would suffice. (I guess that's why my portfolio looks so cheesy) My clientele and their budgets, don't support such nuance. Half the time, I deliver more than they pay for just because.

As an aside, isn't it funny how what used to be considered a liability (showing the trusses and abnormalities in a product shot) photographer's point of view; to be minimized. Are now embraced as bringing character to a shot. Just sayin'

The only thing missing IMHO is a lux meter/measuring device. I've tried to keep within the limits of real lighting, and you can definitely mock up lighting setups as in the real world.

Looks promising, maybe the first one I really buy.

I wonder if there couldn't be a set with optimized render settings (In case you don't need all the details.)

Looks great, I may get it and stay up even later than normal to play with it tonight (well, tomorrow morning really). Is it my imagination or is MODO really filling niches that have needed filling for years.

My question for Yazan is "since there's a DSLR camera in SLIK, will there be a View Camera or a Tilt/Shift Camera setup" (or, is there any need for it, can cameras be setup to mimic tilt/shift functions as is in MODO now?).

I consider this essential for Product photography, and I wouldn't be surprised if Yazan already figured this out.

Now if I can just get the lights to mimic my D4s with quick 1/10th stop increment adjustments...

This is fantastic! Yet another example of Luxology putting power in its users hands to do the things that they actually need to do with the tool.

Congrats, and thanks for the update guys. I will be purchasing very soon.

Thanks Yazan Great work+++ I`m a photographer and that tool is very useful for me. It`s much faster to setup the Lightning in Modo first and than in real world.

so thanks

I am very tempted to buy this, but I have a concern: is there any chance this product stop working correctly in futur versions of Modo?

I hate to buy plugins for a software and having to re-buy them each time this software get upgraded as it is the case with so many softwares out there.

I can't imagine that Yazan would not continue to update this and adapt this for future versions of Modo, it's the only logical option. Although i have no real voice in this case i think it's safe to say you can buy it without worrying about the future Stephane. :)
